NOTE: If anyone finds any errors, omissions or things that need correcting, please let me know and I'll promptly make the necessary changes. I'm also happy to field any comments or questions. This really is a work in progress and I hope to keep adding features and improving the list.

This checklist and supporting pages are for the area defined as the "ABA Northcentral Region." This is composed of the following states: North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Indiana and Ohio. I set out to create status definitions for the species in the region and was able to do this thanks to a wonderful file, "Midcontinent Rare Bird Records," composed by Bob Domagalski. The remainder of the information comes from each state's checklist, to which you will find links and citations under the "Reference" link.

I'm going to try and keep the list updated every few months as new state checklist revisions become available and Bob updates his file. Important to remember is that the checklist is only as current as the state checklists from which it is made, so while new species may have appeared in the region, they will not be included on this list until the respective records committee accepts the record and adds it to the state's list.

Another thing to note is that the status definitions are also backdated, as the available data in Bob's file was only as current as the oldest complete set of records. For example, Michigan's records in the file are current through 2005, but North Dakota is updated only through 2002. This, in creating the regional statuses, I had to restrict myself to the period of 1993-2002. In regards to status defintions, I chose to guide my decisions based on Michigan's definitions, as they were easily the most thorough and logical of the ones in the region. See the "Status Definitions" link for what each state.
