First-year male Lark Bunting present near Oskar, Michigan on 5.19.2008. The species is considered casual in the state. This particular individual was #300 in MI for me.

Originally an unidentified duck at the Atlantic Mine sewage ponds. After deliberation, really all it can be is a Greater Scaup, considering size and shape, which is pretty outstanding for early August in the Keweenaw.

What can I say about this bird? It was a mind-boggling find at close range. This will go down as Michigan's 6th State Record. At the bottom there is some reference to proximity, as you can see Adam Byrne getting dirty for the close shot (even though it couldn't have cared less that we were ten feet away at times).
